Quick Guide to Emfinger Steel’s Container Service
What We DoAt Emfinger Steel, we're here to make your scrap metal collection easy and efficient. We provide roll-off containers and gondola trailers for our customers to safely and regularly load with scrap metal. We handle the delivery, pickup, and pay you for your scrap, turning your metal waste into value with minimal hassle for you.
Are There Any Fees?
As long as each container is carrying 10,000 - 35,000 lbs of scrap metal and is being swapped once or more every 90 days then there is no charge for our container service. Instead, we pay a slightly reduced rate, based on distance from our facility, compared to what you could get if you hauled the material on your own equipment. Charging a fee per swap inadvertently gives an incentive to keep containers idle longer and to load them to unsafe weights.
Even though 95% of our customers never get a bill from us, we do charge a $300 fee if there’s not enough scrap metal or we can’t safely pull the container, to cover the cost of the truck and driver for a load that’s otherwise not profitable. If we need to haul a load to the landfill, we charge $45/ton. We don’t charge rent for containers that are being actively used, but after 90 days of no activity we begin charging $5/day.
How Do I Get It Emptied or Picked Up?
The best way to get your container swapped with an empty one, or picked up when you’re all done, is to call us: (334) 794-4251. Request a swap if you want an empty delivered when we get the full one or pick up only if you are all finished with the container.

Key Things to KnowUsing Our Containers
- What goes in? Please only put scrap metal into our containers (10,000 - 35,000 lbs).
- Where do we deliver containers? We'll deliver and pick up containers at your chosen location, within 45 miles of our facility in Dothan, AL. Just make sure our team and equipment have clear, safe access to the container when it's time for a swap or pickup.
- Your responsibility: While the container is at your site, you're responsible for its safety. This includes preventing unauthorized access and making sure it's loaded correctly (no overflowing or spilling). Please load it safely for transport and never let anyone but us pick it up.
- Damage: You're responsible for any damage to our containers while they're at your location, beyond normal wear and tear. You agree to cover the repair or replacement costs.
- Hazardous materials (asbestos, chemicals, paints, solvents, oils, pesticides, acids)
- Flammable or explosive items (propane tanks, spray paint cans, lithium-ion batteries)
- Concrete, liquids, medical waste, radioactive materials, refrigerants
- Loose tires, wood
- Any general trash, debris, or non-metallic items.
- We charge a $300 fee to handle prohibited materials or trash, plus:
- If we are able to take it to a landfill, we charge a disposal fee of $45 per ton.
- If we are unable to take the material to a landfill, we will return the container to you for you to remove the prohibited materials.
- If we are able to take it to a landfill, we charge a disposal fee of $45 per ton.
- You'll also be responsible for any damages that result from putting these items in the container.
- Payment for your scrap: We pay a competitive rate for the scrap metal we collect from your container. Please note that this rate might be lower than if you delivered the materials directly to our yard, since our container service includes the convenience of pickup and hauling.
- Payment terms: We'll pay for your collected scrap metal in the month following its collection. Any fees you owe us will be deducted from your payments or are due 15 days after receiving a bill.
- Light Loads: The average weight we see is over 20,000 lbs and each container can safely hold 35,000 lbs. If we pick up a container and the scrap metal inside weighs less than 10,000 pounds, a $300 fee will apply.
- Idle Containers: Our containers are meant for active scrap collection. If a container stays at your location for more than 90 days without us picking up at least 10,000 pounds of scrap from it, you'll be charged rent of $5 per day, starting from the 91st day. A light load pickup (under 10,000 lbs) won't reset this 90-day period; only a pickup of 10,000 pounds or more will.
